It was a privilege to engage in such an important conversation on the future of **gender equity**, a topic that I am deeply passionate about and committed to advocating for in my work. As an empowerment catalyst and inclusion advocate, I continuously strive to challenge norms and foster authentic inclusivity. Being a guest on **Inclusion Bites** provided a wonderful platform to discuss these crucial issues in depth. One of the significant issues we delved into was the pervasive phenomenon of "rainbow washing." Too often, companies project superficial support for the LGBTQ+ community without genuine action. This performative activism does little to foster real change and can even harm employee morale and retention. We emphasised the necessity for authentic support and meaningful involvement within the community, underpinning the true essence of inclusivity. An essential aspect of our conversation revolved around **gender equity in the workplace**. I highlighted the critical need for pay equity for all genders, transparency in payroll, and the importance of initiating conversations around gender equity in professional settings. We underscored how imperative it is for organisations to embody genuine support and inclusion, not just in slogans and seasonal efforts, but ingrained into their everyday operations and culture. Pronouns and inclusive language formed another substantial part of our discussion. Using and respecting preferred pronouns is more than a linguistic choice; it is fundamental to respecting individuals' identities and experiences. Sharing my personal journey and challenges with using they/them pronouns, particularly when faced with resistance, brought to light the ongoing struggles many face. Inclusive language is a powerful tool to avoid making others uncomfortable or hurting them, and it necessitates continuous effort and education. We also touched upon the complexities of advocating for gender-neutral restrooms, the pink tax, and how traditional views can oppressively maintain outdated gender roles. The conversation expanded to include the need to address and eradicate discrimination and violence against transgender individuals. These are areas that require persistent and determined activism. Discovering and acknowledging my true identity came at the age of 40, and growing up in Colombia where non-binary identities were not recognised added unique perspectives to our conversation. We spoke about the journey of self-discovery and the power of understanding and embracing one's true self later in life. In my current role, helping organisations develop inclusive gender equity strategies remains at the forefront of my mission. It involves gathering data, creating inclusive policies, and implementing language use that reflects and respects diverse gender identities.
