10 year old advice

1 / 1

**Chapter 12: Advice to My 10-Year-Old Self** Imagine journeying through time and finding yourself sitting next to a younger version of you—someone who's just starting to explore, to dream, and to wonder about the world’s many possibilities. What would you tell that child? What wisdom would you impart to help them navigate the path ahead? In this chapter, I'm going to share the advice I'd give to my 10-year-old self. ### Feelings Are Your Superpower Hey there, little one. It's me, Matt, future you! I know that growing up can be tough sometimes. You might feel a whirlwind of emotions—happiness, sadness, excitement, worry—and that's perfectly okay. You see, one of the most important things I've learned over the years is that your feelings are like superpowers. They tell you a lot about what’s going on inside and around you. Remember, it's important to express how you feel. Don't bottle it up. Talk about what's bothering you, what makes you happy, and share those feelings with the people you trust. It’s not a sign of weakness to talk about your emotions; it shows you’re brave and strong. When you speak up, you give yourself and others the chance to understand better and support you. ### Find Good Role Models As you grow, you'll meet many people. Some will inspire you, some will teach you, and some might even make you feel like giving up. Choose your role models wisely. One of the people I wish I knew more about when I was your age is Jocko Willink. He's an incredible leader who talks a lot about discipline, responsibility, and doing the right thing even when it’s hard. Find role models like Jocko. Look up to those who are kind, honest, and doing positive things. Their actions and words can guide you through tough times and motivate you to keep going. ### It’s Okay to Not Be Perfect Sometimes, we feel like we need to be perfect. We want to get all A's, be the best player on the team, or always make the right choices. But let me tell you a secret: nobody is perfect, and that’s completely fine. In fact, making mistakes is one of the best ways to learn and grow. Every successful person you admire has made countless mistakes. They’ve faced setbacks and failures. What sets them apart is that they didn’t give up. They kept trying, learning, and improving. So, if you ever trip and fall, know that it's just part of the journey. Get back up, learn from it, and keep moving forward. ### Be Kind to Yourself and Others Kindness is an incredible gift you can give to yourself and those around you. Treat yourself with love and respect. Celebrate your achievements, forgive your mistakes, and always strive to do your best. The way you treat yourself will reflect in how you treat others. Being kind to others is equally important. Help a friend when they’re down, share what you have, and always try to understand where they’re coming from. Kindness creates a ripple effect, and the world becomes a better place each time you perform a kind act. ### Never Stop Dreaming And lastly, never stop dreaming, little one. Your dreams are the stars that light up your sky. They give you direction, hope, and a reason to keep moving forward. Whether you want to be an astronaut, a scientist, a teacher, or an entrepreneur like me, hold onto those dreams tightly. Work hard, stay curious, and always be open to learning new things. Sometimes, your dreams might change along the way, and that’s okay too. What matters is that you keep reaching for the stars. As we wrap up this chapter, remember that you are a strong, capable, and amazing person. The journey ahead might be challenging, but with the right mindset, good role models, and a kind heart, you'll navigate it beautifully. And who knows? Maybe one day, you'll be the one giving advice to your younger self, reflecting on a life well-lived. Keep believing in yourself, dream big, and always, always express your feelings. The future you are shaping starts with the choices you make today. So go out there and make it a wonderful one! --- With heartfelt wisdom, **Future Matt**
