12 years ago, something happened that would forever change my life. I was skiing with my best friend Andre. Skiing, amazing, fresh powder. And next thing you know, boom. I fly off this massive cliff. I'm airborne like a stunt double without a parachute. Now, Andre was filming at the time with a GoPro camera on his skin pole. And he caught the shot of him, you know, skiing, but he totally missed that once in a lifetime moment of me going off the cliff.
Marc Bjerring 00:00:34 - 00:01:24
We got no footage of it, no slow mo hero shot, nothing. All we got is Andre going, oh, shh. So at the time, Andre and I are studying mechanical engineering together, and we thought, hey, why not create a camera mount that could have allowed us to capture that once in a lifetime moment? So we ended up inventing the Spivo selfie stick, which is this device here. It's a selfie stick that basically allows you to capture different perspectives very easily. So it's one of those products you kind of see and you're like, huh, that kind of. Kind of makes sense, right? So we got a patent on it, ended up selling it, and developed a whole line of camera gear and everything in about 65 countries. We sold them and, yeah, all because we missed that moment. So naturally, folks, we're going to take a quick selfie right now.
Marc Bjerring 00:01:26 - 00:02:01
Yeah, that's it. All right, we got the shot, guys. So inventing the selfie stick and missing that once in a lifetime moment taught me a really important lesson. And that is if you don't have the right video to show, it never happened. You see, perception is nine tenths of reality. And if we can't show event planners that you're the right fit for the. For the event, reality is you're probably not going to get booked and they're going to miss out on what you have to offer. So we're here to change that.

Today we're going to be talking about the seven figure blueprint for demo reels. It's a pleasure to be here. We got about 45 minutes, and we're going to do some Q and A in the middle and at the end. So feel free to save up your questions for that. So let's jump in, folks. So today we're going to cover five key components to a powerful demo reel. How to make it your ultimate sales tool. A whole bunch of options for capturing content.
Marc Bjerring 00:02:26 - 00:03:45
I know for some folks who are just starting out, there's always that kind of chicken and egg scenario, right? So we'll chat about that optimum lank, whole bunch of tips and tricks and all that. Good stuff. So first, just to level the playing field, what is a demo reel? So, a demo reel is a movie trailer that's specifically designed to be watched by event planners and leaders. And if there's anything you take away from today is that your demo reel needs to tell a story, because stories are what people remember, and stories bring up emotions and emotions are what make people remember. So the purpose of the demo reel is to get you on the top of the short list so that when planners are looking and considering a bunch of speakers for the event, you're at the top of that list. You're the logical fit that they're going to go for, and just kind of give you an idea of what the right reel and strategy can do for you. What we're hearing pretty consistently from both event planners and from bureaus is that 90% of the time leaders are looking at your demo reel as that initial deciding factor when putting you on the shortlist for an event. And typically, when you've got that great reel, you're about four or five times more likely to get booked than some of the other speakers they might be considering.

Now, in order to do that, can anyone guess what your demo reel needs to do when watched? So, give you 15 seconds. Tell your neighbor. What does your demo reel need to do when watched? Okay, folks, so let's hear it. What does the demo reel need to do when watched? Pop it out. I don't need a keynote here. Just pop out the answer. What does it need to do? Okay, what else? Make them buy contact information. Okay.
Marc Bjerring 00:04:34 - 00:04:49
Credibility. Capture it. Get their attention. Yeah. Okay, Anything else? Make them say, wow, that's a good one. Be a safe bet. Tell them who you are. Okay, yeah, well, it does need to do all of those things.
