Don't clap, don't clap. Oh, it's very loud. I haven't got time. That's very loud. Very loud. I can't see you. Oh, I can see you now. That's a pretty hard introduction to follow, all of it.

And if I had a few hula hoops, I'd do something, but it would just make you laugh. And I'm a bit of a bag lady, but I do want to just reinforce that NSA and the community and the friends you make here are extraordinary. And just this morning, apart from Eileen, I've had Meredith and Tim Guard and Terry Brock all come up to me and offer to help me in any way they can. And that's what this organisation is about. So just before we start, I wasn't going to do this, but that's part of what I'm talking about, spontaneity. On the count of three, I want you to turn to the person next to you and I don't care if you've ever met them before in your life. And you are going to give them a hug. And don't do any of the stuff about ew, I don't know who they are.

Well, what if they got a germ or ew, just like, would you put your heart into this? But do it quickly because honestly, I haven't got much time. So you just got to turn to them quickly. 1, 2, 3, go give them a hug and then the other side. But be quick, be quick, be quick. Okay, come back, come back. Hugs don't take long. Come on back, come on back. Okay, stop hugging, stop hugging.

This is nsa. So what we're going to be doing to start off with, what's the difference between a speaker? This is called silent influence. Right? What's the difference between a speech and an unforgettable experience? Something where. And I just have to say, I am ancient compared with most of you, ancient. So I can have people come up to me and say they saw me speak 30 years ago and quote verbatim some of the things I said. In fact, I've had a couple of people here say it to me as well. And it does make one feel good and bad at the same time to hear that you said something 30 years ago and somebody remembers. But that's the difference between a speech and an extraordinary, unforgettable experience.

So I want to Share with you 3 quotes to get us started. And the first comes from Karl Buchner, not Maya Angelou, it's Carl Buchner who said, people will forget what you say. They'll forget what you do, but people will never forget how you made them feel. Now, I just want to modify that a bit because you can't actually make anybody feel anything. You know that, don't you? Go like this. Yes, you cannot make anybody feel anything. However, you can create an environment in which people can feel great about themselves. And so that's what we're going for in terms of silent influence.

Because this is what you are going for in every event. Whether you speak about the most serious, dry, boring topic on earth or whether you are, like, purely motivational and inspirational and I'm going to help you. It's about this if. And with the next letter. I didn't say that. I didn't kind of give people the letter to start off with until one day in the crowd, everybody started snickering. And I thought, I gotta add more. So F, L I N G, what do you think it is feeling? And for those of you who are sitting there going, well, you just told us that, or you've already thought about, wow, she's using flip charts.

And how archaic is that? That is because flip charts are a phenomenal way. Or whiteboards, phenomenal way for group engagement. And I don't use them for content. I use them for process. And that's the second quote that I want to share with you. It's from Michael Grinder. So Michael Grinder is probably the world's leading authority on nonverbal communication. And I studied with Michael for 30 years.

Slow learner. Or he has a lot to teach. And Michael has this great quote which is, we are in love with the influence of power. Power. When we should be in love with the power of influence. And the way he describes it is that we have the content and we have the process. Now, for those of you who've seen me a few times, you know to go to the process level. So watch what I'm doing it when I'm doing it, because it's all got a purpose.
