Oh, Phil. Thank you so much for having me. I really appreciate this opportunity to have a conversation with you today.
Phil Better 00:02:31 - 00:03:11
I am very excited because when I got your bio and when we connected, I was like, I need to speak with you because you're changing the world. I love people who are empowering, you know, I hate to say it, but, like, minorities or groups that aren't relatively, represented in the entrepreneurial. As, as you know, most people know, I'm a cis white gendered man. I have a lot more, privileges, so I know and hear a lot of stories about people who look like me, but I love talking with people who talk, who are helping others, who are not necessarily what I look like. So I love this, and I love highlighting you. So, Dominice, thank you so much for being here and sharing your story with us.
Dominiece Clifton 00:03:11 - 00:03:11
Yeah.
Phil Better 00:03:14 - 00:03:30
Alright. My first question, like always, is what made you dive into the entrepreneurial? Because it's it is, a world that's very stressful for a lot of people if they don't know. So we need you to decide, hey. I wanna go into that very stressful world, but do it with a mindfulness.
Dominiece Clifton 00:03:31 - 00:03:45
It wasn't a dive. It was a fumble. It was like a, oh, okay. I'm here now. Let me figure this thing out. So I I feel like you have two types of people. I've, oftentimes you have those people that are like, I knew my entire life and I would never work for anyone. I would be an entrepreneur.
Dominiece Clifton 00:03:46 - 00:04:21
I was not that person. I was on the flip side of, like, I had no interest in being an entrepreneur. I was for sure, like, planning to just do the traditional, you know, nine to five route. And I started out in that arena, but it's funny looking back now. I'm like, girl, you were never actually built for nine to five. So I so I, you know, went the traditional route, went to college, graduated college, got a corporate job, started out working in New York City for a pretty Macy's, you know, so pretty reputable, company. And I I would say, like, a year and a half into it was like, oh, god. Like, there has to be something else.
Dominiece Clifton 00:04:21 - 00:04:57
Like, this can't be it. So I jumped all the way from, like, working in corporate to applying for the Peace Corps. Got into the Peace Corps that got delayed. And then I ended up, like, figuring out how to still go to China and teach English and went there, came back. And then I started doing the more traditional things like working for nonprofits, settled into getting married, and started having children. And it was in the, like, trying to force myself to fit into this mold and, like, check the boxes that society tells us that we're supposed to check to be happy and successful. I was, realizing that, like, that wasn't the best fit for me. So looking back now again, like, there was so much misalignment.
