2025 Influence #19 Invitational Selling: Present with Impact, Profit with Purpose
Dennis Cummins 00:00:02 - 00:01:13
I truly believe that each and every one of you in this room have incredible gifts to share. We all are in the National Speakers Association. We're here to take the things that we know, the things that we have learned, the experiences that we've gathered over the years. And I believe it's our duty and it's our responsibility to. To take the things that we've learned and to share them with the rest of the world. I had an amazing mentor of mine years ago who said, you have a gift to share, but when you don't share that gift, you cause suffering. And when we talk about invitational selling, it's about just giving somebody a gift. I think there's a big misconception over what is the idea of selling, what is the idea of sales? And it's always like, hey, I'm going to get something from you instead of what can I give you? How can I help you? Sales and money.
Dennis Cummins 00:01:13 - 00:01:44
That's important. I absolutely agree with you because money is the metric by which we measure our effectiveness. Money is how we figure out how we doing. If I'm making a lot of money, I must be making a lot of sales. My question is, what are you selling and how are you selling it? We've all been in rooms where there have been speakers that be run to the back of the room. Only 17 left. If you're not one of the first 500, you lose your discount. It's all over.
Dennis Cummins 00:01:44 - 00:02:49
End of story. Your life will end. Your total life is going to be in the suck hole, and your marriage is going to go down the tubes, and you're just a miserable loser if you don't buy my stuff. How many of you have been to that workshop? How many of you enjoyed that experience, Right? But here's what I love about all the things that we've heard over the course of this weekend. You know, I love what Simon said earlier. You know, and when I was sort of figuring out what do I want my marketing to look like, what do I want my website to look for? Like, one of the people that I modeled and was Simon. And it was so neat to see that he was going to be here. But he talked about giving people hope, right? Because when we take our gifts, whatever that is now, that might be your product, that might be your service, that might be your coaching, that, that might be your consultancy, that might just be a project or a widget or a holder, whatever that is, it helps somebody do something.
Dennis Cummins 00:02:49 - 00:03:25
You know, we've heard a number of speakers over the last few days. Some amazing Amazing. People from the front of that room talk about becoming good at our craft. Right. When you don't share your gifts, you cause suffering. I don't think anybody in this room wants to intentionally cause that suffering. But I want you to think about selling from this perspective. The things that we have, Nod your head, raise your hand if what you have helps somebody in some way.
Dennis Cummins 00:03:25 - 00:03:56
Let me see a show of hands. Fantastic. Yeah. Right, so. So you're helping somebody. So we're doing that. If we as speakers, as leaders who have something to share, and not only that, but the fact that you're here says you've got the voice to start to talk about that, to start to share that, well, then I think that we have to, and this is something that I love that Ty Bennett talked about the other day. We have to get good at our craft.
Dennis Cummins 00:03:57 - 00:04:21
And the craft is selling. Now I will say in the past, selling was like an evil word at the National Speakers Association. You know you're not allowed to sell. You know you're not allowed to sell. Don't do that. That's not a good thing. And I say to that a word that I'm not going to say on the inside. Right.
Dennis Cummins 00:04:23 - 00:04:52
If we don't sell it, that means that they don't get it. And if they don't get it, then they can't benefit from it. And that's why I think we all really need to sort of just rethink that now. There's always people that are like, oh my gosh, sales. I love sales and I love selling. Where are you? There you go. But it's about 20% of the room. The other 80% are not so great at it.
