Oh, I already know we're gonna have a fun time just from the few seconds we talked before we started the show. I'm excited. So once again, thank you so much for being here. Welcome to the show. Let's dive into it. Why did you become an entrepreneur? What was the the the the moment of creation that Diego decided to depart from regular life to the entrepreneurial life?
Tiago Faria 00:01:54 - 00:02:48
Yeah. It's a fantastic question, and, it wasn't easy to understand exactly when it was, but I know it was when I was working at Google. So I've been playing full on the corporate game for 8 years working in Dublin, Ireland. And at some point, after 5 years, I think, I started feeling, I don't know, desperate about being there. At first, I didn't understand if it was maybe I'm in the wrong role or something, in the wrong office, and I was trying to change internally, but things were not I was not feeling truly motivated at all. So, after a while at some point, I I understood that, okay, I'm I'm psychologically unemployable, basically. I cannot stand anymore having a manager on my nagging my nerves every week, being limited creatively by, you know, only selling one type of product, working only with the big big sharks, big corporations, feeding the big corporations. So I started understanding, okay.
Tiago Faria 00:02:48 - 00:03:04
I I I want something, a bit a bit more that I can control, a bit better, right, that I can use my creativity a bit, a bit more extensively. And then, at some point, a friend of mine gave me this book, that I'm sure most of the readers know about it, like, Rich Dad Poor Dad.
Speaker C 00:03:04 - 00:03:06
Oh, yeah. Rich Dad Poor Dad.
Tiago Faria 00:03:06 - 00:03:43
He basically exploded my my brains, and I slowly started. Okay. I had to do something about this. Started reading a lot, you know, started with drop shipping, those silly things we try at the at first. And, yeah, at at some point, at in 2,012 in 1019, I finally decided to to quit Google and, with the help. Thank god my wife supported me. We I I was able to quit and, come back to Portugal where where I was born and raised, and I'm here back, living in a more, you know, comfortable, easygoing area. Like, I'm close to Lisbon, 20 minutes from Lisbon, but not really in the city.
Tiago Faria 00:03:43 - 00:04:56
So I have kind of a country vibe, you know, countryside vibe with there's horses sometimes eating grass around, some chickens, some sheep, and, so here I can really, have a truly relaxed life working from home, helping local entrepreneurs, local businesses. As it wasn't easy. Okay? This process of transition was not easy at all. No. It was 3 tough years of, you know, I was bringing very complex strategies from Google, trying to implement it in my own business with didn't work. Right? Big big ads, funnels, crazy complex things, and, I was complicated in my life and my clients' lives for for 3 years until, yeah, until I decide, okay, I need to work with someone to, work with a mentor, creating my own plan, focus on exactly who I'm trying to help, and then, okay, instead of trying to do all the crazy, shiny object tactics that we are bombarded daily from the Internet marketing gurus, I, I stopped that. Okay. What do I have already in my own world? What can I leverage to start creating a very decent business and sustainable and and fun even? And so that's how I started with, actually inspired by another book if you don't mind.
