I’m Speaking…with Elizabeth West #82 Happy Winter Solstice!
Elizabeth West 00:00:00 - 00:00:38
Hello, and thank you for listening to. I'm speaking with Elizabeth West. I am your host, and this episode will probably be about winter solstice. So happy winter solstice. Happy winter solstice. Now, I get excited since I found out that a little bit later in life, but I digress. Found out later in life, didn't really think about how the days are getting longer. And they start on winter Solstice, which started on December 2023.
Elizabeth West 00:00:39 - 00:01:11
On December 21, 2023. So if you're listening to this in real time, it just started. Right. So I'm getting excited about it and I'll tell you why in just a minute. So now I actually talked about this on episode 41 titled looking forward to longer days. Again, that's episode 41, looking forward to longer days. And I will put that link in the show notes so you can listen to that one if you'd like to. So I'm looking forward to the longer days.
Elizabeth West 00:01:11 - 00:01:43
And winter solstice is very exciting for me because the days start to get longer and you'll notice it day by day. It'll be like minute by minute. Sometimes it'll be a couple of minutes at a time. And pretty soon, what do you call it? So in March, that's when we set the clocks forward. Right. So then the days are even longer than they are. Yeah. Than they are now.
Elizabeth West 00:01:44 - 00:02:13
Happy winter solstice. And the days will start to get longer. You'll notice it. You'll just kind of like, look at your, you can check it from your phone. I have it. The weather, I forget what it's called, but let you know the weather and the time, the sunset and sunrise, and you can check it and you'll start to notice it, too, that the days are just getting longer. And of course, in March, then we go, we spring ahead. A lot of places do.
Elizabeth West 00:02:13 - 00:03:10
They spring ahead. And so a lot of us states, I should say in the US, Arizona does not, but every other state does. And I believe that they were going to vote for that congress. I believe it was. They were going to vote to not have daylight savings anymore. Anyhow, that's another story. I'm not going to go off on that tangent, but if it were to start because I believe they voted for it and it went through one of the thing, I don't think it went all the way through, or if it did go all the way through, it would not start until next year, 2024, which is like around the corner, right? Days away. So I'm not sure if it went all the way through or if it got close and did not go all the way through.
Elizabeth West 00:03:10 - 00:03:50
But I know that a lot of, I believe it's congress, it's either senate or the Congress or Congress that votes in the US, speaking for the US. And they were voting for it because they were kind of going to do away with it because they're like, we don't need it anymore. It's kind of old school these days. We don't really need it. And it messes a lot of people up when the clocks change. And so why not just leave it or why not just cancel it or not have it anymore? So I believe they were going to do that. But, yeah, I'm not sure if that went all the way through. But again, happy winter solstice.
Elizabeth West 00:03:51 - 00:04:20
It's exciting because the days are going to be getting longer. You'll start to notice them minute by minute. And you can notice on your phone, you can click on whatever is on your phone, whatever phone you have, and you can see the sunrise and sunset. You'll start to see the sunset changing to be later and later and later. Right. And then in March, then the times we spring ahead. Most states spring ahead. So happy winter solstice again.
Elizabeth West 00:04:22 - 00:04:38
And again. I will put the link to the show, to the podcast episode, episode 41, which is titled looking forward to longer days. If you would like to listen to that. Thank you very much for listening. Cheers to speaking up and for making your voice heard.
