All right, we're going to just jump straight into it. Butch, why did you become an entrepreneur? What made you decide to throw out the shackles of the 9 to 5, the, you know, the all encompassing American dream, if you will, and go into the world of entrepreneurship?
Butch Phelps 00:02:27 - 00:03:02
Well, it, it sort of found me more than anything else. I was at a corporate job for like 20 years. I was turning 40 years of age. You know, you talked about introduction about my weight loss. I had started on that track at 37, lost 105 pounds by 38 and I felt looked good with the lost weight, but I felt really stiff, really bad and I started Working out like crazy because everybody said, you know, if you get stronger, you'll be better. So I started working out like crazy. The more I worked out, the worse it got. And by 40, I was thinking, something's got to give here.
Butch Phelps 00:03:02 - 00:03:53
I've been talking to doctors and blah, blah, blah, just down the line and nothing seemed to really fix it. And so I said to my wife I was taking an early retirement from my corporate job and I said to her, I want to find something that can help me give back to society, but I also want to find something that's going to stop my back pain, because it was so bad that I'd crawl out of my car on my hands and literally pull myself up by the door handle so I could stand up straight at 40, 41 years old. So I went to a class called Keys to the Kingdom. It was in a local, a small church that I had belonged to at the time. And it was really a metaphor for how to clear out the clutter in your mind. But they called it your closet. And from that six week class, I came to the realization that what I wanted to do was massage therapy. I thought, I can give back and it's not that hard.
Butch Phelps 00:03:53 - 00:04:29
If my back doesn't ease up, it'll be fine. I got into the class, I actually got into the school really quick. I got into the class and I remember saying to my wife, something weird is happening here because I know things about the muscle system and I don't know how I know it. I had never in my life really wanted to go into healthcare of any type. I always wanted to be a business guy, but there were things that came to me that was just almost like divine intervention. And I never had believed in that before. So I started working with that. And then mentors started coming into my life.
