0:00 Importance of diverse event audiences

Hey, welcome back to the show. If you are getting visible but not getting clients, it usually comes down to three things. So let's talk about those. First, you're visible in the wrong rooms. That's the thing. You're showing up. But it's the same audience. So that's what happens when you join events that always have the same people in the event.

So I always try to join events, people I've actually never heard of before. And I mean, sometimes you can't know who's going to be part of that bundle or that summit. But if you do and you don't recognize anybody, that's a good sign. And it's, it's, it's hard to say, like, honestly, like, if a bundle or a summit is going to be successful, sometimes you just got to go with your gut on that one.

So. Because if. The thing is, is that if you're showing up in summits and bundles and it's always the same people, well, it's the same followers, same people, same level of awareness, right? So even if you are consistent, nothing's changing. What actually grows your business is getting in front of new audiences.

That's why things like summits, bundles, collaborations, freebie swaps, podcast, guest interviews, whatever work so well, because you're stepping into rooms that already exist. But it's also important to make sure that, that that room has different people in it all the time, right? Consistently. I mean, there's always going to be some overlap and, but that's really important. And I can tell you that I've noticed a huge difference when I host a virtual event.

And then if I keep a lot of the same speakers for my next virtual event, the percentage of new people to my email list is much lower. So it's something to keep in mind when you are, you know, showing up in the different rooms, showing up in the rooms that don't have maybe the right people.

So the second thing is that maybe there's just no clear next step, right? People see you and then what? There's no direction. So for a virtual event, for example, now I'm going to be full transparent.

Like sometimes virtual events, you don't gain a lot of actual people, people on your email list. But it's the visibility that counts. It's the you building your authority. So summits has a, have a special place in my heart. But the real, like, the real truth about summits is that it's going to be way more successful if you host your own.

But if you're participating in summits, sometimes we don't get the same, we don't get like, we have high expectations for lead gen growth, but it's not as, as good as you think it's going to be. That's normal. And I've seen that because I've been in so many different summits.

3:53 Importance of clear next steps

So people see you and then what? Like, there's just no direction, right? So no clear place to go, no reason to stay, no path. So they leave. Every visibility opportunity needs one clear next step. Not five, not options, just one. It can be like a really short and sweet funnel, right? Keeping things simple because you want to keep people interested and you want to keep people on your list and you want to keep them clicking, right?

So that's really important. Like, I don't know, like if you're listening to this and you've participated in summits and bundles and things like that and, or even hosted your own, but then you ghost them, they don't hear from you at all and, or you don't hear from them at all. And then six months later or three months later, you get an email, it's like, what, what the hell is this? Like, I don't even know who you are.

Why are you in my email box, right? And then I just delete and unsubscribe.

So that's just like really important. And like I said, like, keeping things super simple is like huge winner now. But it's so important for them to have a clear next step.

Okay? The third thing is you're building attention, not trust. And especially nowadays, like that trust is so important, right? Like, so here's the thing. Content gets attention, but trust comes from depth. Trust comes from conversations. Trust comes from longer exposure, from actually being in a space with you, whether that's in your email box in a school community, which I have now, or if it's.

Maybe you're on social media and that does well for you, right? Like you, you understand what I'm talking about, right? Like think of it for, as you're the consumer of, of someone you follow that hosted an event or that you sign up for, right? Like that is what gets the trust. The trust is the key piece and that's why things like speaking summits and collaborations convert better than just posting all the time.

You know what I mean? Like, like it's just, it does something super magical. So if you're not at a place where you're ready to host a bundle or a summit or like even do freebie swaps or any of that stuff, I mean, freebie swaps they're pretty easy to put together. Like it so easy. But also like, so is being a guest on podcasts. Like, I think we should all be doing that.

But, like, participate in them, right? Like, if you're not ready to host your own, participate in them.

It's a must. It's a must if you want to be successful in your business and if you want to grow to that level of growth that you are looking for. I mean, obviously I advocate for hosting your own, but if you're not ready yet, be in stuff. It's so important. So if you're visible but not converting, it's not a content problem. Your content is probably amazing. Not probably. I know it is.

So it's really legitimately where you're showing up, what happens after, and how well people. People. How well people. How well people actually get to know you.

And this is the key now, how well are people actually getting to know you? That is the key. So I'm like, wow, this episode is short and sweet, but that's, that's how I like them. So I'm going to finish by saying this.

So if you're listening to this and you're like, yeah, I think I'm showing up in the wrong places.

8:24 Joining Julie's free community

I think I'm showing up in the right places. But who knows? I actually have a free community where we can talk about this exact thing. Not posting more, not chasing the algorithm, unless you're into that, and there's totally nothing wrong with that, but getting into the right rooms and growing your email list in a way that actually leads to clients. And it's really easy. You just have to go to juliecbutler.com school S K O O L Come and join me.

I can't wait to meet you. Or if I know you, can't wait to see you in there, what are you waiting for? And if you're like, okay, I don't just want to learn this, I actually want to do this, Julie. That's exactly what I help with.
