Thanks, Bill. Man, that intro made me feel good, brother. I don't, I don't know if I deserve all that, but I'm feeling really good about myself right now, so thanks.
Speaker A 00:02:41 - 00:02:52
You're very welcome. That's how I like to start the episode off on a positive. Most of my audience knows a fan of hip hop, and I never wanted to be the rapper. I always wanted to be the hype.
Jason Roberts 00:02:52 - 00:02:54
Man, because it's laid that down, man.
Speaker A 00:02:54 - 00:02:59
Yeah, it's just easier. But Jason, I want to thank you so much for being here.
Jason Roberts 00:02:59 - 00:03:00
Thanks for having me.
Speaker A 00:03:00 - 00:03:23
It's, it's going to be a pleasure. Because when I, when Peter, our mutual, reached out to tell me about you, I read what he said. I'm like, this is incredible. I want to speak to him because, like, what you've accomplished is extraordinary. So without jumping into everything, we're going to start with the first question. Why did you start your first business at 21? What was it that sparked you to be an entrepreneur?
Jason Roberts 00:03:23 - 00:03:42
Jeff, you know, there's two things. One is that, and you kind of mentioned this. You know, I grew up in a small farm town. I didn't have, I didn't have business mentors. I didn't have entrepreneurs around me. You know, my dad bailed on my two brothers and my mom when I was twelve. And so, you know, I didn't have like, the good male influence. I didn't really have any of those things.
Jason Roberts 00:03:42 - 00:04:04
What I did see, you know, we didn't have a lot of money. What I did see is my mom, who's a beautiful woman who worked day and night so that me and my brothers could eat, you know, so that we could have a polo shirt to wear to school or whatever. And I just saw, I saw the sacrifice. I saw her sacrifice. Not a little bit. I saw her sacrifice everything for us. And it never, like, it never sat right. Like, I felt love from that.
Jason Roberts 00:04:04 - 00:04:40
But I also felt like, this is terrible. Like, she, she can't have her own life because she's dedicated everything to us. And so from a young age, I tried to find things that made money, you know, some good, some bad that would take, that would take some of that burden off of her. You know what I mean? And so I think that's what, what got it in me from a young age of like, try to figure out ways to make money so that mom doesn't have to figure out how to make it all. I think it was that. And then the second part of that for me is my first and only job I ever had was at a collection agency when I was 18. And yeah, I don't know if anybody's.
Speaker A 00:04:40 - 00:04:51
Done that job before, but I sat next to collection agents at the back, so I know how, like, fun those draw. Like, that's not fun. Being at a collection agency is probably even worse.
