Something went wrong!
Hang in there while we get back on track

So 12 years ago, something happened that forever changed my life. I was skiing with my best friend Andre. Skiing, amazing, fresh powder. And then next thing you know, I fly off this massive cliff, I'm airborne like a stunt double without a parachute. And Andre was skiing, or he's skiing with me at the time, and he had a GoPro camera on his ski pole and he was filming it towards him. So he kind of got the shot of him, right, but. But he totally missed the shot of me going off this massive cliff. No, we got no footage of it.

No hero, slow mo shot, nothing. So at the time, Andre and I were studying mechanical engineering together and we thought, hey, what if we created a camera mount that could have allowed us to capture that once in a lifetime moment? So we ended up inventing this device here called the Spivo stick, which is a selfie stick that basically allows you to flip around the camera so you could have very easily. We would have caught that once in a lifetime moment. Right. So it was a pretty simple concept, one of those someone had to do it type of ideas. We ended up developing a whole line of camera gear and accessories and everything to go with it and got a patent on it and sold it in about 65 countries, which was a pretty lucky kind of first go at things. So, yeah, naturally folks, we're going to take a quick selfie here. All right.

00:01:20 - 00:01:20
Woo.
Marc Bjerring
00:01:22 - 00:01:53
Okay, right on. We got the shot this time. So inventing the selfie stick and, you know, missing that once in a lifetime moment taught me a really important lesson. And that is if you don't have the right video to share, it never happened. You see, perception is 9, 10 of reality. And if we can't show event planners that you're the right fit for the event, you know, the odds are probably not going to get booked and they're going to miss out. Right. So we're here to fix that.

We're going to talk about the seven figure demo reel blueprint today. We've got about 45 minutes and we're going to try and keep it light, action packed and all that good stuff. If you don't have a handout, feel free to. There's a whole bunch of them. I'll bring them at the back of the room here. If you want to want to grab one, leave them here with you guys. Kioki. All right, so quick overview, what we're going to cover.
Marc Bjerring
00:02:16 - 00:03:01
Five key components to a powerful demo reel, how to make it your ultimate sales tool, whole bunch of tips and tricks on what to do to capture content you know, especially for a lot of speakers starting out, oftentimes there's a bit of that chicken and egg scenario, Right. So we're going to talk about that whole bunch of tips and tricks, what to do, optimum length, what to avoid, all that good stuff. So let's jump in. First things first. What is a demo reel? So it's a movie trailer that's specifically designed to be watched by event planners and leaders that encompasses all of your speaking work, all your professional work, and essentially the whole purpose of it. If you ask what's the most important thing is that it needs to tell your story. Right. If there's anything you take away from today is that you have to tell a great story.

And the purpose of the demo reel is to position you at the top of the shortlist. So when planners are looking at a whole bunch of different speakers, your reels is designed to set you apart, position you at the top of that list. Now, just to give you an idea of kind of what the right reel and strategy can do for you, what we're hearing pretty consistently from both event planners and from bureaus is that 90% of the time leaders are looking at your demo reel as kind of that initial deciding factor when putting you on the shortlist for an event. So typically, when you've got that great reel, you're about four or five times more likely to get booked than some of the other speakers they might be considering for that engagement. Now, can anyone guess what your demo reel needs to do when watched? So when someone's watching your demo reel, what does your demo reel need to do? Give you 15 seconds. Tell your partner, your neighbor, what does your demo reel need to do when watched? Okay folks, let's hear it. Pop out the answer. I don't need a keynote here.
