Hang in there while we get back on track

So, as I was saying, tech challenges, aren't they fun? They're awesome. Okay, so we are going to be using a tool called mentimeter, which is one of my very favorite ways to engage your audience before, during, and after your presentations. So today, I'm going to be an open book. I'm going to share with you guys very transparently all of the good, the bad, and the ugly about why I love this tool, why I continue to use it, and even though it's not perfect, and some of the creative workarounds that I found for various things. We're going to talk about Mentimote, which is a way that you can both see your slides and advance the presentation. Typically, when I'm giving a keynote or a workshop, I'm using a perfect cue to advance from my MacBook. But because the MacBook wasn't working today, and we pivoted to my iPad, which is usually what I use for a downstage monitor, I can actually use the remote on my phone.

So.

So obviously, I can advance it by clicking on my iPad. But another really fun thing about Mensimeter is that you can just download an app on your phone. Actually, it's not even an app. It's just like, literally a mobile webpage that you can use. And you can see all kinds of fun stuff for yourself. You can see your speaker notes, you can see a timer. You can do different Q and A and interactivity things that you can control just by show of hands. And we'll ask again in the platform, but I'm curious, how many of you in the room have ever used Mentee before from a presentation? So, like, roughly half of you guys, okay, awesome.

I use it almost every time I present. I was looking at my stats in there. I've used it 327 times. So a bunch of keynotes, a few workshops, some facilitations, and like I said, we're going to get into the good, the bad, and the ugly. Yes. One of the things we're going to talk about is why I don't like to use it virtually. What I've found is that using Mentee virtually is good if you've got a small team, like, if you're using it for someone internally. But I don't think it's worth the effort to use it in Zoom.

So I'm going to talk about a tool that I really like when I'm doing virtual events that I use instead. When I get to the end, we'll get to some other tech that I really love. I Speak on customer experience. One of the things that I always say is that I truly believe regardless of the industry you're in, you are in the experience business. And I think that goes for all of us as well. And as our competitive set gets bigger and bigger with the people that we're competing against to be on the stages that we are, I think all of us need to be looking for tools to create not just a keynote, but an experience. This is a fun picture from a recent event that I did. And you can see in this.

Well, hopefully you can see we're going to press. You can see some of the responses to a question that I'd asked. And this one was a word cloud. And it's just a really fun way to make every presentation feel especially customized, very bespoke. So I want to invite all of you guys to take out your phones. Hey, you're right on time. Thanks for joining, everybody. If you want to take out your phone and let me know where you're joining from so you can scan this QR code and you will know you're in the right place.

When you see a little map that you can move your finger around to pinpoint and tell me exactly where you're joining from. This is just a map of the US I'm actually trying out the map for the first time, so I didn't do the world. So if you're from rest of world, just pick wherever on the page at your discretion. But this is a fun way rather than just putting the QR code up to invite people to join, which we'll do next, that I will show you. One of the things that I've had to figure out how to kind of get creative with with Venti Meter is how do you fill the time in the moments that you need to stall for 60 to 90 seconds when you have several hundred people in a room or even a couple of thousand people in a room and they're all trying to scan the QR code, maybe some of them haven't connected to the WI fi yet. So we can talk about some of those things and some of the workthroughs that I've found. But I've found this to be be a good stall to have something up there. So you're not just saying scan it and like killing time while people look at a QR code, but you're giving something for people who are in there already to do.

You'll notice on your phone you've got those reaction buttons, the little emojis. I was recently diagnosed with ADHD, not by a doctor, but by TikTok. But it feels like a totally legit diagnosis. So mostly those are for fun. For fun for you in the audience. For fun for me. And it gives something really dynamic to be able to respond to as you're going through your presentation, where you see it. Hi, guys.
