Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to another amazing episode of invest in yourself, the digital entrepreneur podcast. I'm, of course, your host with Most Feel Better. And today I'm very excited because we have a guest who lived a life that I really want to try, maybe not everybody, but I definitely want to try, while building their business, they lived in an airstream, were able to have their first daughter, make their first million, and, of course, build a PR company that is crushing the world from it. Please welcome the CEO and founder of Publicity For Good, Heather. Heather, thank you so much for being here.
Heather Holmes 00:00:53 - 00:00:56
Thank you. I'm so excited to be here today.
Speaker B 00:00:57 - 00:01:05
So yeah. You start your business in the Airstream. Before we jump into anything, I wanna know, like, how was that like, how did that work?
Heather Holmes 00:01:06 - 00:01:36
Sure. So, I started Publicity For Good in 2016. I started it for my mom's basement. I worked at an ad agency for three and a half years, left the ad agency because I was given an ultimatum. Mhmm. At the time, I was doing network marketing. I was making what I call lemonade money, like, a couple $100 a month. And I was given an ultimatum, work full time for the agency, which I was, and I was overproducing or doing network marketing.

So June 15, 2015, I quit. I moved home. I started building publicity for good for my mom's basement, had a minimum wage job, at my favorite gym. I thought, why not be able to work out and get a free gym membership and work really hard late at night and in the morning and then get paid? And I funneled all that money back into publicity for good. And then finally, when I build it up to about 5 to 10000 a month, I actually was still living in Columbus, Ohio. I went to LA for a press tour for a client. I didn't wanna be rushed because I didn't know how much publicity we would we would get, so I got a long way to get. Ended up staying in California, moved to San Diego, and then months later, I met Austin, my husband now.
Heather Holmes 00:02:24 - 00:02:46
And, at the time, he was in the military. And in 2019, he was planning on getting out. And during his last appointment, we really did a bunch of research on RVs and air streaming. We wanted to travel. We wanted to figure out where we wanted to live. We wanted to be intentional and really figure out where is home before we settled our roots. And then he got back from deployment. We got an Airstream.
Heather Holmes 00:02:47 - 00:03:22
We bought a 25100 deployment. We got an Airstream. We bought a 25 100 truck, and then we started out on our full time, Airstream adventure working from the road. We had mapped out the whole year of travel to figure out where we wanted to call home. And, our travels really started before the pandemic in 2019. So Mhmm. We were ahead of the curve, living a minimal life, being intentional, and it was just me and my boyfriend at the time in a 23 foot Airstream.
Speaker B 00:03:24 - 00:03:24
Jesus.
Heather Holmes 00:03:25 - 00:03:27
Small. Right? Really?
Speaker B 00:03:27 - 00:03:55
That that that is small, but also I love because it makes you understand what's the importance of life. Keeps the important stuff there. Like you said, the minimal mill minimalist lifestyle, only keeping what's important, what makes you happy, like Mary Kwan said, or I think that's her per se. She says, the only things that bring you happiness, you should have. So you did that and you got an Airstream. What was it like working out of the Airstream, building a a PR company?
Heather Holmes 00:03:56 - 00:04:52
Yeah. So 2019, everything was closed, and part of the adventure and excitement of being in an Airstream and travel is getting to go go to local restaurants, going to local coffee shops, supporting small businesses, all those things, but everything for the most part became closed. So some of that adventure died down. And, you know, a little bit, after a little while, we did get stir crazy, because nothing was opened. Part of the an excitement was working from coworking spaces, working from new restaurants, working from parks and seeing the mountains, working from coffee shops. So it was a lot of fun, but the benefit of it was is we had no external distractions. Like, all we had all we had the space and time to do was work because nothing was open. And we were on the road, and we, you know, we had our laptops, but we didn't have a TV.
