Thanks for having me. It's a pleasure to be here.

So, David, like I start off every episode, I want to know, why did you become an entrepreneur? Why did you decide to go into this personal development space?

Well, that's kind of two questions. The reason that I became an entrepreneur was because I wanted to be in charge of my own destiny. And I learned very early on that working for somebody else was not going to allow me to do that. I was not. I'm not a good employee. I shouldn't say I never have been, but I'm just. I'm really not. Why I got into the personal development industry is quite another situation.

I was a high school dropout at 17. I got married young, had two children, and had no skills. And I, my responsibilities were ramping up faster than I could pay for them. And I hit a wall right around 1990, I would say, and woke up one morning, the car was repossessed. Then we had to file bankruptcy. Then we had to leave the apartment that we were in in the middle of the night because they wouldn't let us out of our lease. But we didn't have the money to pay the rent. I had to buy a $300 beater that burned a quart of oil going to work, a quart of oil coming home.

I used to buy oil by the case at a place called Farm and Fleet, Illinois and. And Carry. I had a Ford Escort wagon that was just junk, but, I mean, kept me alive for two years. So I, I, then I said to myself, like, it just kept getting worse and worse. I came home one day, actually, here's what happened. I got a phone call from my wife, and she said I had to take the kid out of the house and go to the park because the couple next door were in a fist fight and she was screaming. And when I got home that day, I wanted to just cry because I couldn't believe that I had not only gotten myself into this situation, but this is what I was giving my family. So I said, okay, what's the problem here? The problem is you didn't finish high school.
